Paul Abel - Repair Technician / Owner
I’d like to take this opportunity to tell you a little bit about my background. I am a 1981 graduate of Greece Arcadia High School. I hold a B.M from Ithaca College having graduated in 1985. I began my formal instrument repair training at Allied Music in Elkhorn, Wisconsin in the summer of 1985. After leaving Allied, I served as an apprentice at Wendell Harrison Music in Rochester working with Lenny “Mac” McKee and Dotty Frizell. While pursuing a Masters Degree in trombone performance at The University of North Texas, I continued to do repair work for my musician friends and for Brook Mays Music in Irving Texas. In 1988, I was offered a position in the engineering and quality control department at United Musical Instruments. (Now C.G.Conn Selmer) Following my stint at UMI, I was head repair technician for Biviano Music in Niles, Ohio for 1 year. From there, I spent the next 7 years as a repair tech for Volkwein’s Music in Latrobe, Pennsylvania, where I received intense training from Leroy Abbott, former flute maker at the Haynes Flute Company in Boston. In 1999, I had the chance to return to my roots here in Rochester. I served two “tours of duty” with American Music in Pittsford, between which I established Abel Brass Clinic. Once again free from American Music, I have come full circle with the opening of Brass & Woodwind Shop.
I am extending an open invitation to all musicians, band directors and private instrumental teachers to stop by and see my shop at 2361 Dewey Avenue. Bring along your personal instruments for a free evaluation or just have a cup of coffee and chat. Let’s talk about how I can be a benefit to you personally, or your school or community band program. My phone number is the same as Abel Brass Clinic that is 585-232-1790, and my email address is pbob63@frontiernet.net. I look forward to establishing a professional relationship with you and with your school or community band program.
